Anti-Aging Tips for Neck Hands and Chest

August 20, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

By Van Le | When it comes to anti-aging skincare, most women automatically focus on the facial area, spending thousands of dollars on crèmes, masks, and other products that promise to combat signs of aging. We spend hours in front of the mirror and thousands of dollars on products that promise to hide wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots on our face, however, many of us pay little or no attention to the neck, hand and chest areas. The skin around these areas are as delicate as the face, and they are just as susceptible to symptoms of aging. Skin, regardless of where it is on the body, needs equal protection from the sun and other pollutants. Fortunately, there are simple and easy steps for skincare from the neck down.

Neck and Chest

Products that are good for the face are equally good for the neck and chest. Without proper care, the skin on the neck and chest areas can be wrinkly, blotchy, and show age spots, which can contradict the illusion of young, firm facial skin created by makeup. The simplest, easiest way to care for the neck and chest areas is to moisturize, and fortunately, you do not need to purchase a separate moisturizer. Most daily facial moisturizers work just as well on the neck/chest area, especially those that contain natural herbal products such as Vitamin A and E, rosemary, and lavender. Vivoderm’s intense moisturizer is made with both the face and neck in mind, and it is infused with all-natural ingredients to give all three areas a healthy glow. In addition to daily moisturizing, exfoliation is also very effective in fighting signs of aging on the neck and chest areas, since it removes dead layers of outer skin to make room for younger, healthier skin. Use a gentle exfoliant, since the skin is most tender and delicate around these areas. Finally, remember to apply sunscreen every day. A moisturizer that also contains sun protection is perfect for daily use on the neck and chest areas.

Hands

Most people can guess a woman’s true age by looking at her hands. Getting weekly manicures may be a great way to pamper yourself, but it’s not enough to keep the skin on your hands young and healthy. Since we wash our hands several times a day, harsh soap can strip the hands of essential oils that are vital for healthy skin. Use a gentle soap to help maintain the proper pH balance for your skin. In addition, use a hand cream often to fight off dry, flaky skin. Try keeping a small bottle in your purse or at your desk to remind yourself to use it daily and often. As with everything, prevention is the best solution. Break habits that are bad for your hands, such as picking at the cuticles and washing dishes without gloves. Cuticles protect your fingers from infections, and excessively picking at them can make them bleed and look unsightly. Dishwashing soaps are alkaline (basic), extremely harsh on the skin and can cause the skin on the hands to age prematurely. Wearing gloves every time you wash the dishes is a simple, easy way to protect your hands.

So the next time you prepare your face for the day, or wash your skin at night - remember that just like the face, the skin on the neck, chest and hands are exposed to external elements 24/7, and need just as much care.

Facial Exercises for a Youthful Complexion

August 13, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

By Van Le | The gym is often a place associated with physical fitness, strong muscles, and a healthy lifestyle. While we commit to hours each day at the local gym to work off those love handles or build the perfect six pack, we often forget to exercise the most important factor in our physical appearance: our face. While professional gym equipment can cost thousands of dollars exercising our facial muscles costs nothing. Exercise leads to stronger muscles and firmer skin, and the results are the same whether done on the abs or face. One of the best ways to reverse saggy facial skin is to exercise the muscles underneath.

Natural expressions - such as smiling - are a great way to work out our face, but the problem is we don’t do it enough or we have habitual expressions such as frowning or squinting that can contribute to wrinkles or fine lines. There are several other ways to exercise our face for a toned, healthier complexion, and they all can be done from the comfort of our own homes.

Forehead: Place your index fingers just above your eyes and pull down your eyes while raising your eyebrows. This facial exercise firms your forehead. Repeat this exercise ten times.

Lips: Suck on your finger as hard as possible and slowly remove it. Repeat this exercise ten times for firmer lips.

Eyes: Sit with your eyes closed and relaxed. While keeping your eyes closed, look down and look up as far as possible. Repeat this exercise ten to fifteen times.

Sit straight with your eyes closed and relaxed. Lift your eyebrows and stretch your eyelids down as far as possible by keeping your eyes closed. Keep in this position for a count of ten, relax and repeat it ten times.

Cheeks: Take your three center fingers and place them on the cheeks and push them down. At the same time, raise your cheeks by smiling as hard as you can. Keep your head back when you are performing this workout.

Neck: Sit straight and tilt your head back looking at the ceiling. Keep your lips closed and relaxed. Move your lower lip over your top lip as far as possible and keep for a count of ten. Relax and repeat ten times.

Double chin: sit straight in a chair and tilt your head back and look at the ceiling. Keep your lips closed and relaxed. Make your lips round, count up to twenty and relax and bring your head back to the normal position.*

As we age, gravity takes its toll, especially around the facial areas. While we can’t turn back the hands of time or stop the natural aging process, we are in control of factors such as how we age and how we can minimize the signs of aging. An overall healthy lifestyle, including a proper diet, adequate amounts of exercise, and everyday beneficial personal choices can all lead to a younger-looking appearance and increased personal happiness.

Using Green Tea & Zinc to Slow Aging

August 13, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

The popularity of green tea in the skincare industry has skyrocketed over the last decade. It’s more than just a fad, as the benefits of green tea are well documented due to extensive research. Tea was used in ancient times as a natural stimulant, since it contains caffeine. Today, people drink green tea as a natural way to promote overall good health, but it is especially popular in the skincare industry, where it is a key component in the efforts to slow down the signs of aging.

Green tea contains high amounts of polyphenols, which protects the skin from damage caused by free radicals and other harmful toxins. Compared to black and white tea, green tea contains the highest amount of polyphenol, and contains anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticarcinogenic properties. Its anti-inflammatory nature makes it a versatile herbal ingredient used to fight acne. The antioxidant qualities help prevent premature signs of aging, and the anticarcinogenic characteristics are a major component in the efforts to find a cure for cancer.

The anti-inflammatory properties of green tea make it an effective herbal treatment against symptoms of acne. A 2003 study carried out by Dr. Jennifer Gan-Wong of Memorial Medical Center in the Philippines suggest that green tea cream is just as effective as benzoyl peroxide cream, but does not expose the skin to harsh chemicals and preservatives, according to skincell.org. It also helps detoxify the body and reduces skin inflammation, which decreases the occurrences of outbreaks.

Green tea is also indispensible as an anti-oxidant because it contains high amounts of catechins, a substance that fights against free radicals, which are harmful to cells and tissues. Catechin is especially effective in neutralizing free radicals caused by excessive exposure to UV rays.

Although green tea extracts alone cannot replace the protection provided by sunscreen, it can enhance sunscreen’s effectiveness. Simply add green tea extract to zinc oxide products, such as Vivoderm’s Zinc Cream. Using zinc oxide cream instead of a store-bought sunscreen product is recommended because zinc will not react to the green tea extracts.

Anti-oxidants found in green tea help delay the skin cell aging process and heal stressed skin. Green tea promotes healthy skin by rejuvenating skin cells and reviving the skin growth cycle. The skin is produced in the deepest of three layers, and as it ages, it moves closer to the surface, where it can develop wrinkles and fine lines. An article published in the Natural Food Merchandiser magazine states that research done by Dr. Stephen Hsu, a professor at Medical College of Georgia suggests that green tea can accelerate the skin cell production process.

Whether as an ingredient in your natural skincare products or added to your zinc oxide cream, the health benefits of green tea are plenty.
